About 1256 Movement
Our 501(c)(3) organization is committed to addressing the historical injustices faced by Black families in North Tulsa. Our mission is to provide reparations through home building, ownership, and critical renovations, helping to repair the damage caused not only by the 1921 race massacre but also by the systemic events that followed. For decades, policies and laws were used to systematically exclude African-Americans from opportunities to build wealth through property ownership. This tragic history deprived 1,256 homeowners of their chance to accumulate generational wealth. Through our work, we aim to preserve and restore this lost wealth, empowering families with the opportunity for homeownership and financial stability as a form of reparative justice.
