And we believe South Africa is a great place to build them. Today, that middle is missing. Since 1990, real GDP per capita has risen just 1.1% a year—so an entire generation has seen little improvement in quality of life—and over 60% of the population still lives in poverty. At the root is a deep productivity crisis. Too many businesses remain informal, tech adoption lags global standards, infrastructure is underdeveloped, and education systems often fail to prepare people for today’s economy. We don’t just need more entrepreneurs—we need capable founders and teams who can build high-performance organizations at scale. But backing a founder is a long-term partnership. You can’t fully understand each other after a quick pitch and a few data exchanges. So we provide a small initial check (after a few weeks’ diligence) then spend 3-4 quarters understanding the business and confirming if we’re the right long-term partner. This way, when we invest more deeply, we do so with a tailored value-add plan built on insight. Our thesis draws on 18 prior investments, spanning Pre-Seed to Series B companies across 10 verticals, serving customers in Africa, the Middle East, Europe, the UK, Latin America, and the US.
