3i Innovation is a science-based business that has sprung from an innovative idea and decades of research to worldwide technology leader. That idea is the transfer of power not through wires but through magnetic fields, a technology known as inductive power transfer, or iPOWER (not dissimilar from how an electric toothbrush is charged). More than fifteen years in the industry has provided 3i Innovation with an in-depth understanding of the dynamics of the road environment, where it is a leader in on-road lighting, but also how these products survive long term in harsh environments. The core to 3i Innovation’s success has been the underlying technical advantages created through inductive power transfer. As there are no wired connections, there is no corrosion, therefore the light units have a far longer life expectancy. Additionally, the system does not incorporate sparks or electrocution danger, and is faster to install and easier to maintain than traditional approaches. 3i Innovation's patented iPOWER system has many advantages over wired LED lighting, making it the most affordable system available, and representing a breakthrough in reducing the total cost of ownership of lighting. 3i Innovation was awarded with 'Finalist - Entrepreneurs Challenge 2010 by Business school, University of Auckland'; 'Finalist - NZ High Tech Award, Microsoft High Tech Emerging Company' in May 2012; Finalist - Best Award 2012 by The Designers Institute of New Zealand.
