55 North Capital Partners is a Cayman Islands-based investment management company specializing in the emerging securities markets of Iraq. Together with its subsidiaries and affiliates, the firm manages the Iraq Phoenix Fund, a Cayman Islands-based investment fund. The Iraq Phoenix Fund runs a concentrated portfolio primarily in public equity securities that are either entirely, or largely focused on the country of Iraq. The Fund is also able to invest in debt securities, derivatives as well as special situations/private equity opportunities that would be relevant to an Iraq-focused portfolio. 55 North Capital Partners’ team is led by Paul Collison who has nearly 20 years of experience investing in global emerging markets, originating with the energy sector and then expanding across all sectors. He previously worked at JP Morgan Investment Management, Farallon Capital, and UBS Investment Bank. Paul received an MA degree in International Studies at the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA degree at Wharton Business School. Thomas Gochenour is the Head of Research. Tom has 30 years of investment-relevant experience, with a particular focus on the energy sector as well as historically on the Middle East. He previously worked in Kuwait as a Petroleum Economist and finished graduate studies at the American Univerisity in Cairo. Tom has a Ph.D in Near and Middle East Studies from Harvard University and a Bachelors Degree in the same from Princeton University. Julia Brookes is the Operations Manager at the Iraq Phoenix Fund; she takes care of all business-related matters. Paul, Tom and Julia have known and worked together for a number years, beginning when all three lived in Moscow, Russia. An integral element of the investment research and risk management effort is contributed by members of both the Board of Directors as well as the Advisory Board.
