About AA International

We are a small agricultural consultancy, specialising in crop evaluation, agri-tech extension and food security monitoring. We are based in west Wales (Aberystwyth) and are presently primarily active in eastern Africa, where our sister organisation AgriTechTalk Africa has its head office. We also have experience in southern Africa, east Asia, Europe and the Middle East. We offer rural advisory and agritech extension services. Our Pictorial Evaluation Tool (PET) in particular is one of our key assets for providing timely food security analysis. PET is available for a range of crops (Maize, Wheat, Barley, Teff, Sorghum (early and late maturing), Sunflowers, Pearl millet, Finger Millet, Upland Rice, Cassava, Groundnuts) Forages, as well as for livestock, where the internationally standardised Body Condition Score is used as unit of analysis. In 2018, we launched PET as a mobile application, which allows field teams to rapidly assess the state of food security in a given region. Our PETs have been developed for monitoring and evaluation purposes but can be adapted in their application. We are also keen to develop an application to support farmer decision making. In addition to developing and using our PET tools, we have extensive experience in designing, monitoring and evaluating programmes for international agencies and NGOs working in developing countries all over the world. In the field of skills training, we developed and delivered tailor-made numeracy skills programmes to agricultural officers and smallholder farmers.
