My Story: I Became a Lawyer to Help People Navigate the Legal System After graduating from Clemson University in 1976, I worked in the textile industry. My friends who worked in the plant with me would occasionally get caught up in the legal system for whatever reasons. I saw that they were usually frightened by the system and felt like they were helpless to do anything to improve their situation, whatever it was. I got tired of just listening to my friends' frustration and helplessness with the legal system. So I became an attorney. Some people get pushed around by the legal system, just not my clients.
