We allocate funding and resources to help innovative technologies reach patients. Our objective is to support development of medical devices that improve patients’ quality of life. We focus on devices that have a significant positive impact on patients – from diagnostics to surgical tools to mobility aids. The Problem Product developers are working tirelessly to design better devices and technologies for patients. However, innovative products are often prevented from reaching patients due to funding shortages at critical stages. While these early-stage developers have often contributed their personal funds, raised funds from “friends and family”, and received funding from angel investors, this funding is insufficient for stages such as FDA review, initial production and distribution. They are caught in the Funding Gap - and Abacus can help. The Abacus Solution As a charitable organization, Abacus helps these technologies reach patients by providing funding – often during this critical Funding Gap. Funding Allocation Criteria Abacus conducts a rigorous due diligence process similar to that of other funding sources but with different benchmarks. Abacus also requires that qualitative patient-focused benefits are expected.
