Accola's transformative programs improve opportunity for immigrants through education; provide safe and dignified housing for women as they heal from trauma; and help connect people’s spirituality with social justice action. The name "Accola" is derived from Latin and translates to "neighbor," symbolizing our commitment to serving and uplifting communities. Just as good neighbors look out for one another, Accola boldly responds to the needs of our communities, addressing pressing issues with empathy and action. Accola is a newly independent nonprofit organization influenced by the spirit and built on the work of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, who have providing education, housing, healthcare and actively working for social justice in Minnesota for over 175 years. At Accola, we believe every individual possesses inherent dignity and a unique contribution that enriches our community. We stand firm in our belief that diversity is not a political issue but a moral and practical imperative essential for a just society. We affirm that an inclusive, diverse community is the cornerstone of innovation, resilience, and lasting social change.
