New architecture: We aspire to develop respectful contemporary new buildings, adaptions and additions from the crafts, skills and techniques learnt from traditional construction and utilising contemporary advancements where appropriate. These materials often bring time honoured ecological and environmental benefits, and healthier living. Our new architecture is led by context and developing a good understanding of the architectural and human needs and opportunities. Heritage and listed buildings: We have developed specialist skills to work with and alongside heritage assets with the conviction of the SPAB’s approach of fabric first conservation, and good contemporary design that compliments the old. We learn from, repair and conserve heritage, striving to work on projects that renew and adapt at-risk or vacant heritage and listed buildings. We feel that heritage should be utilised to champion and improve the built environment, reduce the environmental impacts of the construction sector and encourage regeneration. Ways of working: In addition to context and surrounding history, our approach seeks to fully understand the personal needs and joys that can be gained from a building project alongside its functional brief. We seek out the existing qualities, assets, moments of beauty and potential in the hope to add appropriately to whatever we adapt. Good quality and thoughtful design is why we are doing architecture. We value buildings and their setting as an experience. Space; light; materials; textures; atmosphere; movement through and change over time.
