About Addison's Disease Self Help Group

The Addison’s Disease Self-Help Group (ADSHG) is the UK charity and Patient Support Group for people affected by Addison’s and adrenal insufficiency. We envision a world where Addison’s and adrenal insufficiency are recognised early and managed effectively so that every person can live confidently and thrive. Addison’s disease and adrenal insufficiency are rare endocrine conditions affecting adrenal gland function and can be life-threatening. Life-long treatment with replacement steroid hormones is required and if untreated, it is fatal. Medication is time-critical, and individuals must also know how to administer an emergency hydrocortisone injection to prevent a potentially fatal adrenal crisis. Our vision is led by our aims to support, connect and advance. We support the Addison’s and adrenal insufficiency community on their journey to become expert patients, helping them to be aware, be prepared and be understood. Working with leading adrenal specialists and the Addison's Clinical Advisory Panel led by Professor John Wass, we promote broader medical understanding and timely and effective management of this rare condition and fund vital research.
