About Advanced Technology & Capital
The LeEject dental safety system was created after the inventor himself sustained needle stick injuries. In one study, 20% of all needle stick injuries occurred in dental personnel, and 75% of those needle stick injuries were sustained by dental assistants and 7% were sustained by dentists. (There are numerous clinical surveys reporting needle stick injuries among dentists, but the studies reporting needle stick injuries among dental assistants or hygienists are virtually nonexistent.) That study concludes that among dental personnel 30 people contracted Hepatitis C, 6 people contracted Hepatitis B, and 3 people contracted HIV from needle stick injuries. (Appendix 5) "Some health care workers abide by an 'it-won't-happen-to-me attitude' and resist making changes to their daily routines simply because old habits are hard to let go." Most needle stick injuries in dentistry occur during removal of the contaminated needles, especially the recapping stage. The LeEject system eliminates the need to recap and unscrew; the needles drop into the sharps containers without recapping. There are other dental safety needle systems in the world, but the LeEject system is the only cost-effective system.
