About African Alumni Association, University of Toronto
The African Alumni Association is a federally registered not-for-profit organization. It is a dynamic, volunteer-led network committed to advancing African excellence, community impact, and cultural pride. Rooted in the University of Toronto and extended across the diaspora, we serve as a catalyst for empowerment, bridging generations of African scholars, professionals, and changemakers. Our signature events, such as the African Influencers Forum, showcase the journeys of distinguished alumni and community leaders, offering mentorship and real-world insight to inspire the next generation. Through The GOWN: African Scholars Awards, we proudly honor outstanding contributions in innovation, scholarship, leadership, and global impact. We are also the force behind Refugee Awareness Week (RAW), a nationally recognized platform that amplifies the voices and experiences of refugees while highlighting their powerful role in shaping Canada’s cultural, economic, and civic life. From newcomer student support to thought-provoking roundtables and leadership workshops, we are dedicated to educating, empowering, and elevating Afro-communities. The African Alumni Association is more than a network; it’s a movement, united by purpose, driven by legacy, and committed to building a future rooted in equity and excellence.
