About African American Child Wellness Institute (AACWI)
The African American Child Wellness Institute (AACWI) is a culturally specific nonprofit 501c3 and Rule 29 mental health agency established in 2009 by Dr. BraVada Garrett-Akinsanya, a clinical psychologist. The mission of the organization is to promote the psychological and spiritual liberation of children of African descent and their families by providing culturally specific mental health services and by developing access to culture-based, holistic wellness resources, research, and practices. AACWI provides parent and community wellness training, testing and assessment, as well as individual, group, and family therapy to a primary population of African Americans of all ages from birth to adulthood. We specialize in providing services that address trauma and exposure to violence using Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TF-CBT) and other evidence-based strategies within the context of an African-Centered Wellness Model.
