About African Natural Resources And Energy Law Network
Africa sits atop considerable reserves of energy and natural resources. However, the continent still grapples with the difficulty of translating these to long-term energy access and socio-economic prosperity for its people. A part of this problem lies in the absence of effective legal and regulatory frameworks that should have ensured the optimal harnessing of these resources for countries on the continent. Other complex issues such as the necessity to ensure that energy produced is clean and that natural resources extracted or mined are carried out sustainably further exacerbate this problem. Combining expertise with practical experience, the African Natural Resources and Energy Law Network (ANRELN) seeks to proffer solutions to the challenges besetting the energy and natural resources sectors in Africa. ANRELN deploys collaborative legal research to advise governments, industry and relevant stakeholders on how best to tackle the legal problems created by energy access and resource governance issues on the continent. Our core objective is to be the centre of excellence for academic research and regulatory counsel in these areas. Although Africa is the primary constituency and thereby the focus of our activities, the solutions could however be replicated outside the continent to jurisdictions facing similar challenges.
