About African Network of Centres for Investigative Reporting (ANCIR)
ANCIR is Africa's largest network of investigative newsrooms. The network includes the continent's best muckraking journalistic organisations, specialising in probing organised crime, illicit financial systems (such as money laundering and tax avoidance), the business of war, and abuses in key 'public interest' industries such as pharmaceuticals, extractives, and infrastructure development. ANCIR runs an iLAB of forensic researchers and investigative technologists, who help build new tools to protect whistleblowers, such as afriLEAKS.org, as well as to help liberate information, such as sourceAFRICA.net, and data-driven resources such as connectedAFRICA.net to help analyse and map the often hidden connections between the people, companies, and other entities that shape our societies. ANCIR also helps coordinate complex transnational investigations, including all #PanamaPapers reportage from Africa, as well as the earlier #Mafia-in-Africa and #FatalExtractions and #EvictedAbandoned series of investigative revelations.
