About African Sisters for Information, Knowledge & Empowerment (ASIKE)

ASIKE was established in March of 2005 with a mission to redefine the image of the African woman by empowering women of African descent through education, information, advocacy, and sisterhood. Currently, our all voluntary Atlanta-based Not For Profit organization unites people from Barbados, Burundi, Cameroon, Cote d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast), Democratic Republic of Congo. Gabon, Ghana, Guinea (Conakry), Kenya, Liberia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Togo, Uganda, United States of America, US Virgin Island, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. We CONNECT by being a forum for mutual understanding of Africa, African immigrants, Afro Caribbean and African American women, as well as broaden understanding and knowledge of development issues that affect our communities both in the US and abroad. We EMPOWER women through knowledge and information sharing, mentorship programs, and leadership training in order to equip them to be effective leaders in their respective communities on the local, national and global stages. We EDUCATE by providing information and knowledge that enhances the personal and professional development of its members through ASIKE activities and events. We firmly BELIEVE that the eradication of poverty in our countries can be achieved through the education of our children. Education provides an opportunity for advancement, particularly for the girl child. Educating a girl child is educating her children and the generations to follow. The education of a child in Africa not only brings about positive change for the individual student but for his/her entire family and community as well. In that regard, the primary objective of S-A-C (Sponsor a Child Program) is to provide continuous basic primary and secondary education to children worldwide, beginning with children from each ASIKE member’s country.
