About AfrikaQueer+
AfrikaQueer+ is the brainchild of Johannesburg-based designers Vee Motingoa and Steffen Fischer. Born from a university outreach project developed in 2021 (“Thuthuzela” – Greenside Design Center) that aimed to interrogate the UN's Sustainable Development Goals concerning safe queer spaces within the South African context. From 2022 forward, AQ+ aims to expand on this thinking by interrogating queer issues through the design lens. As a design studio, we focus on design interventions and collaboration with other organisations to push the greater agenda – visibility, sustainability, and safety for queer communities.
