About Afro Caribbean Cultural Center
The Afro Caribbean Cultural Center (ACCC) is a vibrant home for Caribbean Taino and afro-descendent cultures, based in Waterbury, Connecticut. Our Center without walls philosophy means we will perform our work in spaces (art and cultural institutions) that already exist. A multi-disciplinary center, ACCC integrates the arts, education, activism and conscious cultural tourism to foster social transformation. We document and present the creative genius of African Diaspora cultures; prepare the next generation of cultural leaders; and unite Diaspora communities. ACCC carries out its mission through public art exhibitions, performances, educational programs, workshops, conferences, and international exchanges. Our goal is focused on reaching more than 40,000 people throughout Waterbury who are Latinx and connect to the broader Greater Waterbury Community. ACCC is regarded as a pioneer in the field and an authentic source on the historic living traditions of taino/afro-descendent communities in the Naugatuck Valley and State of Connecticut. Our programs and pedagogy are informed by Afro-Atlantic aesthetics and philosophies. We are an accessible community resource and a trusted bridge linking afro-descendent artists and communities across the state, region, and world. ACCC consciously cultivates multi-generational audiences acknowledging the unique gifts of community elders, adults, and youth. Our initiatives and our audiences reflect the dynamic kaleidoscope of global taino and afro-latine culture.
