AFC is a Film making collaborative, LLC that operates from Cooperative Principles. AFC came into existence from an organic idea to create a film company that operates from cooperative principles and grass root organizing to produce and distribute positive and meaningful films, documentaries, and animations from an African centered perspective for people of African descent. Afrocentric Films Collaborative's mission is to build an Afrocentric film community that supports and advocates black/African cinema centered on black/African culture, the black/African experience, and the cultural spirit that exists throughout the African Diaspora. The goal of AFC is to produce and distribute quality motion pictures from a variety of genres and story lines. AFC is the only film cooperative that is membership based and operated entirely by people of African ancestry in the United States. AFC is a member-managed and democratically governed collaborative where members our both owners and workers of the film company. AFC operates in rounds; a round is a four month call for film submission period. The first virtual and in-person meeting members attend is the Pitch meeting. This meeting allows everyone who submitted a film idea to either pitch their idea or listen to others pitches and decide which film project they would want to participate in. After the pitches, members will have the opportunity to network and form teams based on mutual interest and regional chapter hubs. To ensure AFC produces and distributes the highest quality films possible AFC members and non-members will Greenlight member and non-member projects by voting on which films AFC should produce and distribute.
