About AfroSolo Theatre Company
AfroSolo Theatre Company's mission is to nurture, promote, and present African American and African Diaspora art and culture through solo performances and the visual and literary arts. Since 1993, we have provided a forum to give an authentic voice to the diverse experiences of Black people. Through art, we bring people of different ethnicities together to explore and share the human spirit that binds us all. The seeds of the AfroSolo Theatre Company were planted at the 39th birthday party of Mr. Thomas Robert Simpson in 1991. Actors, dancers, musicians and poets were invited to perform. With its success, Mr. Simpson was encouraged to repeat the experience. In the following years, he added a social and political consciousness to the event, along with its cultural aspects. The success of these events inspired Mr. Simpson to create an annual event that evolved into the AfroSolo Arts Festival and other related programs Since 1994 the AfroSolo Arts Festival has daringly presented the spectrum of Black people by showcasing male and female, young and old, straight and LGBT, and artists with disabilities. sfbatco.org
