Current AI agent development patterns have fundamental architectural limitations in how they handle both data and tool execution. They rely on continuous LLM calls with JSON schema-based tool definitions, forcing developers to repeatedly expose application data and business logic through cumbersome API contracts. Each agent action requires another API round-trip, with growing context windows and complex state management. We built AgentScript with a different architecture - instead of JSON contracts and repeated API calls, we have AI generate complete JavaScript execution plans upfront. By leveraging JavaScript and Node.js, we make it incredibly easy for engineering teams to adopt, debug and extend agent capabilities using familiar tools and patterns. These plans get transformed into ASTs that run in our controlled runtime, giving teams full control over data access patterns, tool integration, and execution flows - a robust approach that aligns with how production systems should handle sensitive operations.
