AHAS was founded in the aftermath of the 2023 Maui fires by a multiracial team of artists, educators, cultural workers, and health providers who recognized the need for long-term healing and resilience. We strengthen communities through programs and partnerships at the intersection of arts, health, and spirit, with a focus on evaluation, prevention, and culturally responsive approaches to care. Our Mission To facilitate resilience programs, collaboration, and research that weave health, arts, and spirituality into community well-being. What We Do Evaluation & Assessment: Provide culturally responsive evaluation and documentation for organizations, schools, and government partners, ensuring programs reflect community values and impact Mental Health & Prevention: Support Department of Health initiatives with arts-based, trauma-informed approaches to child abuse prevention, early childhood mental health, and workforce well-being Story & Healing: Lead story-driven programs in poetry, theater, and cultural practice that foster connection, resilience, and recovery Global Dialogue: Host convenings like Creative Grand Rounds and advance research to influence arts, health, and resilience policy Our Values Resilience through the arts • Collaborative exploration • Cultural preservation and innovation • Holistic healing AHAS works across Hawai‘i and beyond to demonstrate that evaluation, arts, and spirit are powerful tools for prevention, recovery, and systems change.
