About AHCR
The Academy House Community Residence (AHCR) is a 21-bed residence located in the Hudson Valley within the historic district of Poughkeepsie, NY. We are licensed by the State of New York, Office of Mental Health and specialize in creating a healing environment for adults over the age of 24, suffering from severe and persistent mental illnesses such as schizophrenia, schizo-affective disorder and severe depression. We provide a structured living environment with 24-hour supervision and medication management. We also have in-house programs like Music, Art & Dance Movement Therapy, and we provide assistance with Independent Life Skills Training, teaching new skills like cooking, laundering, time management, computer skills, and budgeting. Our in-house therapist and other staff members have been trained by and utilize the methods taught by the Hearing Voices Network. They work closely with our Residents, teaching coping skills and anxiety management.
