About AI for PEACE

The AI for Peace is San Francisco based nonprofit organization focused on studying and understanding the impacts of artificial intelligence (AI) and related exponential technologies on society. Our vision is a future in which AI benefits peace, security, and sustainable development and where diverse voices influence the creation of AI and related technologies. We are preparing peacebuilders with the mindset, knowledge and tools to embrace, research, guide and develop human-centered artificial intelligence, ensuring the creation of sustainable positive peace. We serve as a global open hub for social scientists, AI researchers, developers, users and policymakers who want to understand and leverage AI’s potential and impact. Our work focuses on three core domains: 1. Humanitarian action: we support and develop resilience, response, and recovery programs powered by AI and designed for those affected by humanitarian emergencies; 2. Human rights and democracy: our aim is maximizing the beneficial use of AI for the protection and promotion of human rights and democracy and minimizing the risks from intended and unintended development and use of AI; 3. Human security: we aim to leverage AI’s potential to protect human security and move away from focusing primarily on the safety of states to security of individuals, their protection and empowerment.
