About Al Kamandjati Association

Al Kamandjati’s vision is introducing, instilling and promoting broad-based musical education and appreciation as an integral part of Palestinian life. Al Kamandjati exists to make music accessible to the entire Palestinian community and teach music to Palestinian children, especially those in marginalized areas, and strengthen their appreciation of Palestinian culture and identity. Art and its appreciation, as a creative form of self-expression, are fundamental to the development of a cultured, balanced society that includes the arts and humanities as well as other disciplines of study and work. In the Palestinian context, this takes on added importance as a means of relieving some of the psychological effects of decades of military occupation, Palestinian dispossession, poverty, barriers to movement and difficult challenges of daily life. Music can be a simultaneous form of creative education, therapy, discipline, enjoyment, camaraderie and pride.
