About Alabama School of Healthcare Sciences Foundation

Scheduled to open in fall 2026, ASHS will be a statewide, healthcare-focused public high school located in rural Alabama, offering students direct pathways to in-demand careers while addressing the critical shortage of healthcare workers in rural areas. Offering an innovative curriculum providing unique exposure to diverse healthcare careers, ASHS aims to inspire, educate & train young Alabamians through focused science, technology, engineering, math & medicine (STEMM) learning & hands-on training in a residential setting, in partnership with an adjacent regional medical center, managed by the U of Alabama. The school is one of 4 residential specialty state high schools, and is one of 10 in Bloomberg Philanthropies’ groundbreaking $250 million national initiative that will graduate students directly into high-demand healthcare jobs with family-sustaining wages. ASHS is one of 2 of the Bloomberg projects supporting rural healthcare, and the only one being created from the ground-up.
