The Albert Schweitzer Foundation is a non-profit organization committed to the guiding principle of "Reverence for Life" as envisioned by the late Albert Schweitzer. We work closely with the food industry to raise animal welfare standards and promote a plant-based lifestyle. Our primary focus lies in the area where humans cause the most suffering and death: the use of animals and animal products as food. We advocate for a plant-based diet as the most ethical solution and strive for a gradual reduction in the consumption of animal products. At the same time, we work to make the breeding, housing, and slaughter of animals less painful. Drawing on scientific findings, we develop impactful campaigns that concentrate on the areas of economy, law, consumer information, and politics. In collaboration with various stakeholders, we take practical steps towards a more respectful treatment of animals and support even presumed opponents in changing their patterns of action. We cooperate with organizations pursuing similar goals to maximize our impact. Our diverse team brings together different backgrounds to unleash potential and learn from each other. Our work is made possible through donations, which we view as investments from people seeking the greatest possible change in the way so-called farm animals are treated. Effectiveness and efficiency are our guiding principles. Internally, we promote and nurture a working environment filled with mutual respect, tolerance, and appreciation, and live these values on a daily basis.
