About Alexandra House of Joy

At Alexandra House of Joy, our mission is to create a centre of excellence for adults with severe and profound learning disabilities - and to provide specialist support for the primary caregivers who care for them. We are building a bespoke, fully accessible centre in Bicester, Oxfordshire, designed to offer respite, therapeutic day activities, and end-of-life care in a safe and nurturing environment. Rooted in joy, dignity, and community, our space will be a true home-away-from-home for some of the most vulnerable individuals in our society, and for the families who support them. In June 2025, we announced a phased construction model, allowing us to begin delivering services sooner, while preserving the full scope of our long-term vision. Phase One will include: - Four ensuite bedrooms with individual patios - One assisted bathroom and accessible WC facilities - Sluice room, nurses’ station, and staff room - Communal dining area and fully equipped kitchen (built to final footprint specification) - Reception area - Three bespoke activity rooms offering daytime support (e.g. music, arts and crafts, sensory therapy) Each phase is designed to expand our reach and deepen our care - including future plans for hydrotherapy, hospice support, and family stayover spaces. This approach reflects both our commitment to sustainable growth and our promise to honour the original purpose of Alexandra House of Joy. As of June 2025, we’ve raised over £950,000 - thanks to the incredible generosity of our supporters, volunteers, and local community. With their continued help, we are building more than just a centre: we are creating a place of hope, healing, and belonging.
