About Allegheny Science Policy and Governance

Who We Are: Allegheny Science Policy and Governance (ASPG), previously known as Pitt Science Policy Group (PSPG), is an initiative started by University of Pittsburgh STEM graduate students back in 2016 that seeks to increase participation of graduate students in the deliberation of evidence-based policies. What We Do: ASPG provides a platform for members from all cultural and ethnic backgrounds to acquire the tools and resources to involve themselves in Science Policy, Advocacy, Communication, and Diplomacy (Sci-PACD) such that they are equipped to contribute diverse perspectives, knowledge, and expertise to drive positive, evidence-based, policy decisions. Throughout the year ASPG holds events like discussion panels, debate watch-parties, lectures, writing workshops and legislative meetings to bring science into the sphere of policy at any level of governance. Our Mission: ASPG strives to bridge the gap between scientists and government so as to impact policy decisions on the local, state, national and international level. We create an inclusive space for scientists to come together and discuss science policy topics in an objective and equitable setting.
