About ALS CURE Project
Mission: The purpose of the ALS CURE Project is to provide laser focused leadership and sponsor scientific research leading to a cure for ALS (aka. Lou Gehrig’s Disease) through collaborations with research organizations and Biotech and Pharma companies. Background: Currently, the ALS medications available are not curative and only serve to slow the progress of the fatal disease. Given the relatively small number of people afflicted with this disease relative to other conditions such as cancer, pharmaceutical and biotech companies have little financial interest in committing resources given the lack of fundamental research establishing the disease’s mechanism (what starts ALS, and what keeps it progressing) and/or biomarkers. Our hope is once these are established, the Biotech and Pharmaceutical companies will become incentivized to allocate substantial resources towards discovering a cure as opposed to a treatment for symptoms. Goal and Approach: Consequently, the ALS CURE Project’s initial goal is to provide the funding and direction of fundamental research to identify ALS biomarkers and ALS disease mechanism in order to provide the basis upon which Biotech and/or Pharma companies will add curative ALS drug development to their drug development portfolios. The ALS CURE Project has a laser focus on working for a cure for ALS. Many existing ALS charities focus on care for those afflicted by ALS and their families. The ALS CURE Project’s sole mission is working on a cure, as opposed to ALS care which is well supported by many organizations including the ALS Association and their local chapters. The ALS CURE Project will work with those currently conducting ALS biomarker research and will work to encourage Biotech and Pharmaceutical companies developing cures for ALS. The ALS CURE Project is a 501(c)(3) public charity registered in the United States EIN# 84-3289802. Donations will be tax-deductible.
