About American Mothers
AMI was started in 1933 when Eleanor Roosevelt formed a committee as a division of the Golden Rule Foundation, which was established by J.C. Penney and Norman Vincent Peale. Since 1935 we have honored mothers by naming a National Mother of the Year® which is selected from State Mothers of the Year. The mission of American Mothers, Inc.® is to educate, inspire, and recognize mothers through programs that teach, support, and honor mothers, empowering them to positively impact their families and communities. AMI educates mothers through podcasts, conferences, workshops, and other ways that connect mothers. AMI inspires mothers through the Golden Rule Movement, which encourages mothers and families to treat others with kindness. This kindness is extended to other 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations that are in keeping with the mission to education, encourage and help mothers and families. AMI continues to honor mothers by recognizing state Mothers of the Year and naming a National Mother of the Year annually. The 5th Grade Essay Contest encourages children to honor their mothers by writing an essay entitled: "What My Mother Means to Me." American Mothers, Inc.(R) is a non-governmental organization in consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations. We are currently working with the United Nations and the Commission on the Status of Women to raise awareness about issues impacting women and children worldwide.
