About American Women's Group of Languedoc-Roussillon

The AWGLR is a non-profit, non-sectarian and non-political association. AWGLR is comprised of Regular, Associate and Honorary members coming from diverse backgrounds and different countries (USA, France, Ireland, England, The Netherlands, Australia, Canada...). Our club holds in-person (and since COVID, some on-line) events in Montpellier and its surrounding areas. Some of our activities include: Book Club, Conversation Exchange, Walking and Hiking, Cultural Outings, Garden Club, Cook & Eat, Writer's Group. We also join together to celebrate holidays such as Thanksgiving and the 4th of July. In addition, we hold fundraising events to support local and international charities. AWGLR is a member of the international American organization, FAWCO (Federation of American Women's Clubs Oversees - www.fawco.org), which holds United Nations NGO status. Being a member FAWCO affords us the opportunity to join with other like minded women across the globe who are seeking to improve the lives of women and girls worldwide, especially in the areas of human rights, health, education and the environment; advocating for the rights of US citizens overseas; and contributing to the global community through its Teams, Foundation, Grants and Awards. The mission of AWGLR is to stimulate the exchange of ideas and interests between the American/Anglophone and French communities of Languedoc-Roussillon by: • Promoting friendship and sharing the American language and customs with members of the French community • Helping women adapt to a new or different culture while still maintaining their own • Encouraging understanding and good fellowship through social and cultural activities and service to the community
