About Amigos De Los Rios
Amigos de Los Rios’ vision is to create the "Emerald Necklace" and ensure equitable access to nature for all communities throughout the Los Angeles Basin and protect urban communities from the threats of climate change. Our work within the Emerald Necklace vision consists of protecting the forests & mountains of the upper watersheds, the Pacific Ocean coastline and creating green schools and expansive urban river greenways throughout the LA Basin. Our vision of the "Emerald Necklace" is based on a contemporary interpretation of the 1929 Olmsted Bartholomew LA Basin Plan and our habitat restoration work is informed by traditional ecological knowledge of the greater watershed. Since 2003, we have collaborated with community leaders, public agencies, and our Emerald Necklace Volunteer Network (Youth Leaders) to plan and implement a world-class, multiple objective greenspace network for Los Angeles. Land Acknowledgment: “The LA Basin is the ancestral and traditional homelands of the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians (Serrano), Fernandeño Tataviam Band of Mission Indians (Tataviam), Ventureño Chumash (Chumash), Gabrielino Tongva San Gabriel Band of Mission Indians (Tongva), Gabrielino Kizh (Kizh) and Tejon Indian Tribe (Kitanemuk). The Tribes have maintained and continued their connection and relationship with these lands to this day. We honor their elders, past and present, and are committed to lifting up their stories, culture, and community.” urbanwaterslearningnetwork.org/resources/emerald-necklace-connecting-mountains-sea/ nextcity.org/urbanist-news/los-angeles-emerald-necklace-plan-la-basin www.sgvtribune.com/2016/10/12/can-a-17-mile-loop-of-extensive-bike-trails-between-san-gabriel-and-rio-hondo-rivers-ever-be-built/ https://www.kcet.org/shows/departures/the-emerald-necklace-vision-for-a-healthier-l-a-county https://www.thenatureofcities.com/2014/11/09/the-emerald-necklace-metropolitan-greenspace-planning-in-los-angeles-and-beyond/
