We believed in its potential—and kept pushing to see how far this idea could go. Most clinical tools—even at home—come with wires, tubes, or needles. They interrupt everyday life—and add stress. But stress itself can distort the signals we try to measure. We believed a smartphone could offer a gentler, more natural alternative—capturing data as it truly is. After years of R&D and collecting a massive dataset, we developed an AI model that could accurately count apnea episodes from sleep breathing sounds recorded on smartphones. This technology was actually used in corporate health checkups in Japan and was officially classified as a Class I software medical device by the UAE health authorities—further proving that non-invasive, everyday health screening was both possible and reliable. With this foundation, we set out to go further. Could we catch early signals of diabetes? Tuberculosis? Could we shift the starting point of care—not just from hospital to home, but from illness to its earliest, often-overlooked signals? That question continues to guide us today. AMIKAKE AI is a Tokyo-based startup developing smartphone-based, non-invasive AI for early disease detection. Building on years of research, we are now collaborating with public health stakeholders in Africa and the Middle East to explore scalable, pre-diagnostic solutions tailored to local needs.
