AMWAJ Catering Services Company was incorporated towards the end of 2006 with paid up capital of QAR 100m under the direction of the Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman and Managing Director of Qatar Petroleum at that time, as a fully owned subsidiary of Qatar Petroleum (QP). The immediate objective of forming AMWAJ was to provide a fully owned Qatari Catering Company to provide services, to QP and its subsidiaries & affiliates, which were at the time met by multiple foreign industrial catering service providers. In forming AMWAJ, Qatar Petroleum planned to have a professional hospitality service provider, specifically geared to Oil & Gas sector contracts, working to the highest International standards. During this initial phase, AMWAJ was supported by two consultancies, KPMG from Doha and the Russell Partnership from the United Kingdom, who are leading international catering industry specialists. The guidance of the consultant is being used to ensure that the systems and procedures AMWAJ puts in place, for instance in Quality and HSE management, are the most up to date, effective and to the highest possible international standards. AMWAJ started out as a fully owned subsidiary of QP, but now it is part of Gulf International Services Holding Company which is listed on the Qatari stock market, leading to the creation of a truly National Catering Company. At AMWAJ, we believe that the development of fully owned Qatari hospitality business will bring long-term economic benefits to the country.
