About Anam Cara Counseling
Anam Cara Counseling is a nonprofit mental health organization dedicated to providing compassionate, trauma-informed support through innovative evidence-based therapy services. Located in La Porte, Indiana, we specialize in Trauma-Focused Equine-Assisted Therapy and other experiential therapeutic approaches, empowering individuals, families, and groups to build resilience, heal from trauma, and reconnect with a sense of purpose. Our mission is rooted in the belief that healing is possible for everyone. Through diverse therapeutic services—including one-on-one counseling, group therapy, EMDR, equine-assisted psychotherapy, and specialized programs for veterans, first responders, LGBTQ+ and youth—our team works to create a safe and inclusive space where individuals can find hope and cultivate resilience. We are proud to offer evidence-based practices such as Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy (Natural Lifemanship, Arenas for Change (ARCH) and Eagala) alongside mindfulness practices, trauma education, and community support programs. Our therapy sessions harness the unique, healing presence of horses to promote emotional regulation and personal growth, drawing on both the neuroscience of trauma and the intuitive co-regulation provided by these sentient animals. Anam Cara is committed to supporting community mental health through various initiatives, such as our Heroes Club for military service, veterans, first responders, and their families. Resilient Explorers youth groups, and regular grief support, suicide loss support, and meditation gatherings. Our nonprofit model allows us to maintain accessible, quality care while also offering scholarship opportunities and donation-based events to reach more individuals.
