About Anatomy for Kids
Dr. Shelley Metten, or Dr. M, is a celebrated educator and anatomist who retired from the faculty of the UCLA Medical School to pursue her dream to become an expert parent educator. Dr. M has written ten books to prepare adolescents as their bodies mature through puberty. The I’m a Girl/I’m a Boy series is written for you, a caring parent, who wants to make sure that your child is informed and confident as they experience the changes of puberty. She also guides parents as they teach their children ages 5-14 about their changing bodies through blogs and videos. Dr. Metten is also a mother and grandmother who understands the anxiety that parents feel as they consider talking to their kids about puberty and sex, and she believes she can help by providing easy-to-understand resources. The materials she has prepared are designed to guide parents as the conversation unfolds in their own homes.
