Applying and translating AI for social impact. At AngelCare, our unique approach to challenging development questions combines big data with ground-truth information to deliver trust-worthy insights that solve real-world problems. Mobile phones, sensors, and new software have created an abundance of data that can be mined, understood, and translated to gain new and actionable insights about our world and transform almost every sector through the application of AI and Machine Learning. The same algorithms and techniques that companies use to boost profits can be leveraged by mission-driven organisations to improve the world: from the potential of AI to map poverty and aid with natural disasters using satellite imagery; from AI assisting with the delivery of citizen-centric services in smart cities; and new opportunities for AI to help achieve universal health coverage; and finally to help achieve transparency in AI algorithms. However, most social change organisations don’t have the budget or staff to take full advantage of this AI revolution and most data scientists and engineers don't realise just how valuable their skills can be. We want to partner with and serve not-for-profits, social enterprises, foundations, government agencies and businesses across Australia and developing countries that have digital data, unexplored datasets or want help finding data to inform their work.
