About Animals & Culture Collective™
More than ever, people love their pets as family, worry about threats to wildlife, and want to protect animals everywhere. One way they’ve expressed this is by creating meaningful digital projects—archival websites, blogs, online exhibitions, and art—many of which have influenced how many people think about animals. But here’s the problem: without ongoing updates and maintenance, digital projects can disappear forever. That’s why I’m creating the Animals & Culture Collective™—to preserve, protect, and promote these important works, always with the consent of their creators. Our first project is the Animal Rights History archive, a beautifully organized resource on the history of ethics and advocacy for animals that was online from 2005-2014. Created by Cindy Stein and her partner, it disappeared in 2015 after Cindy’s tragic passing. But before her death, she made one thing clear: if anything happened to her, she wanted the archive to go to Eric Greene—because, as she put it, “he’d know what to do with it.” We’re bringing it back! While preserving digital projects is less costly than physical objects, it still requires ongoing funds to keep up with evolving technology, secure backups, guard against malware and bad actors, and adapt to shifting cultural trends. By joining the Animals & Culture Collective™, you can help restore and expand the Animal Rights History archive and support partnerships with other creators and their estates to keep these works alive for future generations.
