About Animationsinstitut

Animationsinstitut was founded in 2002 as part of the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg. Under the direction of Prof. Thomas Haegele Animationsinstitut has developed into one of the most successful educational institutions in Germany, enjoying an excellent reputation worldwide. Animated films that were created at the Filmakademie have already won numerous awards at national and international festivals. Since its foundation in 1991, the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg teaches and produces according to the principle “learning by doing”. The students learn how to make films by making films: They write scripts, design and build sets, operate a camera or direct, create animations and visual effects, compose film music or create sound-design, edit and montage. Working on projects is underpinned and accompanied by guest lecturers with a practical background. National and international professionals from the film and media industry pass on their knowledge and their experience to the students in seminars and workshops. This philosophy connects academic study and hands-on experience; its proximity to the industry has substantially contributed to the Filmakademie' success.
