Increasingly concerned by the state's neglect and lack of understanding of the challenges youth in foster care face as they navigate the public school system, the founders of Anthony’s Circle were driven to find solutions to improve the alarmingly low high school graduation rate among this group of students. Rhonda Meadows and Anthony Preston founded this organization with the vision of supporting foster kids in Oregon to graduate from high school and go to college or tradeschool with confidence, focus, and a road map for a successful life. The program provides foster youth in high school to meet with an Educational Navigator from the Anthony's Circle team throughout the week. These Educational Navigators work side by side with the students providing support and guidance to learn that they have what it takes to graduate. Our ENs provide educational support, social outings, and summer school. Instead of falling behind, the students with ENs in high schools across Oregon are meeting the requirements to graduate. No small feat as they are overcoming years of system neglect that frequently includes moving homes which disrupt their lives--yet again. When this happens, education gets put into the back seat and survival is in the driver's seat. We know from research that stops and new starts put our foster kids way behind.
