Aoife's Bubbles Charity is the UK's only registered childhood cancer charity, dedicated to raising germ cell cancer awareness, in loving memory of our founder's daughter Aoife Flanagan. Aoife's charity was formed following her passing, aged just 3. Her premature death was a result of a delayed diagnosis; only having her cancer diagnosis for 5 days. Aoife had been seen upwards of 10 times by both GP's and A&E staff in the weeks and months leading up to her untimely passing. Aoife's Bubbles Charity campaigns for faster diagnosis times for children with cancer, as well as being the UK's only registered childhood cancer charity to raised germ cell cancer awareness in children, with this type of cancer being diagnosed in 45 children in the UK per year. Aoife's Bubbles Charity also provides acts of joy and respite to children and their families affected by childhood cancer, meaning families can make much needed memories together at the worst times of their lives. Aoife's Charity also funds valuable research for children with solid tumours with the Institute of Cancer Research, specifically the eMART trial. We currently pledge £15,000 a year for one arm of this trial, but we are pledging to raise over 3 years £192,000. This will help fund 64 children to have blood sampling taken on this clinical trial to find safer and kinder treatments for children, who deserve to survive their cancers. Currently, there are only 4 drugs - all of which were designed for adults - to treat children with solid tumours. Given the differences between adult's and children's bodies, these drugs have long lasting and devastating affects on the children receiving them. We want to make a change to these frightening facts.
