About Arizona Myeloma Network
Arizona Myeloma Network (AzMN), a 501c3 charity was founded in June 2004 by Barbara B. Kavanagh. Our mission is to promote collaboration, awareness, education and advocacy for improved treatment and quality of life for multiple myeloma patients, their families and ALL cancer caregivers with special consideration to the underserved. Core programs promote cancer education and are FREE to the general public: Cancer Caregivers Education Program conferences are provided year round. Seminars on Tissue Donation and Clinical Trials are available upon request. Our Vision: -"AzMN's Community Partner Program" is designed for businesses who are serious about satisfying their social responsibility and community engagement initiatives. -ALL Myeloma patients know as much as possible about their disease and how to live with it. -ALL cancer caregivers excel in their role, engage the family and have strong support systems. -ALL Myeloma cancer patients, bioscience, business and the community collaborate to support cancer research, and improve cancer treatment for all. What is myeloma? Multiple Myeloma is a complex and often misdiagnosed cancer of the bone marrow that affects plasma cells, which comprise the immune system and bone. The cause is unknown. In the USA there are over 2,041 new cases of myeloma diagnosed every month! Yearly in Maricopa 301 are diagnosed and 191 die from myeloma. Thankfully an estimated 83,367 people are living with myeloma. There is no cure, but Myeloma is treatable and patients may experience complete remission. With the new research, earlier intervention, and new medications, lives are being saved and the quality of life is improving.
