About Ark Eden Foundation

Ark Eden Foundation is a leading eco-education and permaculture community based on Lantau Island, Hong Kong. Our Mission - to provide sustainable solutions for global environmental and social issues through educational workshops, nature-based experiences and restorative projects that create a positive change in people's attitudes and actions towards the planet and towards each other. Our Vision - to develop a network of eco-facilities world-wide and cultivate more caring sustainable communities dedicated to taking action for people and planet and restoring respect for all living creatures. Since Ark Eden’s inception in 2006, over 150,000 people have been involved in Ark Eden educational programmes. These cater for students from kindergarten to university level, as well as adults from business enterprises and community groups. Programmes tackle issues such as food, building, water, waste, energy, natural and sustainable living systems. Activities include ecological restoration, composting, organic farming, waste management and zero-water practices, ecological building, habitat exploration and nature based learning holiday camps. Our experienced staff and volunteers deliver the programme activities to participants at our beautiful permaculture site in a rural Mui Wo valley and other areas around Lantau Island and Hong Kong. Also, since 2006, Ark Eden’s ecological restoration project has planted over 37,000 native saplings onto hillsides left bare from repeated forest fires. Now these hills boast over 132 different native species of trees and have become home to a larger number of native animals. Ark Eden is part of a larger community of Green Groups in Hong Kong that engage the public in a number of advocacy issues that pose a serious environmental threat to the biodiversity of Lantau and Hong Kong. An example is action against the proposed Lantau Tomorrow Vision off Lantau Island.
