About Art By Meredith Connelly

Meredith Connelly is a multidisciplinary installation artist with a Bachelor's in Studio Art from the University of Wilmington. Connelly illuminates her site-based installations and encases her lighting in manufactured materials to reveal their organic qualities. To further connect and submerge viewers into her glowing site-specific environments, she incorporates interactive elements into her works. The artist also creates complex hand-cut paper works reflective of the microscopic world and presses them in transparent materials that parallel microscope slides. Whether creating large-scale experiential works or hand-cutting patterns into sheets of paper, she remains intrigued by the endless possibilities of her materials. Working with lighting and technology as a material for over a decade, Connelly’s works have been on view at art museums throughout the southeast, and are housed in various private and corporate collections. The artist has been selected for public projects based in the growing city of Charlotte, NC, such as the Arts and Science Council's (ASC) Community Supported Arts Program, the I Heart Rail Trail, and Charlotte SHOUT! through CLT Center City Partners. She was awarded an Emerging Creators Fellowship in 2020 and a Cultural Vision Grant in 2022 by the ASC, and was recently commissioned to create a permanent public project through the City of Charlotte slated for 2023. Connelly’s public work will also be heading to Charleston, SC, and Nashville, TN before the end of 2002. The artist is committed to expanding community and culture through the arts, is an advocate for equality and women in the arts, and places great emphasis on supporting emerging and underrepresented femme, BIPOC, and LQBTQIA+ artists in all stages of their careers. The artist has more recently begun curating art exhibitions attached to causes she is passionate about.
