About Artistoric
Artistoric is a research-based gallery that specializes in historically significant works of art. The Artistoric Collection differentiates itself with objects of both aesthetic and historic appeal. Through the production of original scholarship, Artistoric seeks to establish the historical significance of the objects in its collection, and amplify their appreciation and value. As such, Artistoric’s mission is aligned more with that of museums than that of traditional antiques and retail art galleries. Artistoric Curations serve to enhance that very function: periodic online exhibitions of varying scale allow us to place complimentary objects side by side in a larger context, and expose themes and arguments about the past through their relationship to one another. The Artistoric Collection focuses primarily on decorative arts, a field on the cusp of a revolution. In recent years, a significant shift in both academic and museum settings can be sensed by an ever-increasing interest in material culture. The idea of what constitutes art, and the ways in which we can learn about history, has expanded to encompass material culture of all types. Significant cultural artifacts extend far beyond the purview of painting, sculpture, and architecture: the traditional “high arts,” as coined in the 16th century. Even in the 16th century, dinner sets were sold at prices much higher than paintings or sculptures, and trade secrets involving the creation of glass and porcelain (now labeled “decorative arts”) were avenues of immeasurable expenditure and competition. Artistoric functions within these understandings to rethink the contributions and possibilities art galleries and collections can offer. Our team of experts have in mind the purpose of providing our clients not only with beautiful historically significant art, but also with knowledge.
