ARTKELCH was specialising in Indigenous Fine Art from Australia and Papua New Guinea. The main focus was on acrylic paintings from Australia´s Central and Western Deserts as well as on bark paintings and scuptures from Arnhem Land. For more than 15 years ARTKELCH has been one of the leading galleries of its kind in Europe. Founded in 2006 by German-Australian Robyn Kelch, ARTKELCH has curated more than 100 exhibitions, thereof 15 in German museums. After closing of the Freiburg gallery in June 2021 due to long haul covid ARTKELCH focused on art consulting and working with museums. ARTKELCH has set a high benchmark for quality, dependability and respect in all dealings with Indigenous artists and their work, sourcing all artworks solely from community-based art centres; this in itself is a strong statement on provenance, authenticity and fair trade of (Australian) Indigenous art. ARTKELCH was a signatory of the Indigenous Art Code and a member of the BVDG (German gallery association). Besides participating in art fairs (Art Karlsruhe, Art Paris etc.), the gallery staged 3 to 4 exhibitions per year at its gallery in Freiburg and 1 to 2 exhibitions at its Collectors Lounge close to Stuttgart. The gallery became known in Germany for its annual touring exhibition 'Pro Community' which introduced art from one or more art centres of a specific region each year at different venues including private and public museums. With 60 to 120 works of art exhibited across all locations annually, 'Pro Community' was regularely the largest commercial exhibition of artists from the respective regions. In total more than 3 Million AUD had been returned to Indigenous communities across Australia.
