About Ashoka Society for International Trade and Foreign Policy
Ashoka Society for International Trade and Foreign Policy serves as a student-friendly forum of understanding economic foreign trade. Through the development of a youth centric perspective of how international trade operates, we aim to understand the complexities that are associated with international trade by putting ourselves in the shoes of diplomats that carry out these decisions and generating comprehensive research work that not only gives us knowledge about economic hard power of nations but also questions who really gains from trade unions, ‘fair’ trade treaties and other such agreements. Founded by Ananya Agarwal and Lavanya Rathi, and under the guidance of our esteemed advisors Professor Abhishek Rai and Professor Nayan Chanda, the society will conduct simulations of the WTO, much like an MUN. This activity will act as the World Trade Organisation where students will behave as representatives of nations discussing matters of trade and commerce. An e-newspaper in the form of a Foreign Policy Review will keep the student body updated on matters related to international economics and trade via weekly articles. Student writers may take up topics such as new economic disputes, developments or amendments in international law related to trade. It will provide updates on the happenings of the world of international commerce. We encourage those with a keen interest in world affairs, foreign policy, and economic reforms to join. Whether you’re a seasoned student activist, or a newcomer looking for a place to start, our society has something in store for everyone!
