ASMET, the Austrian Society for Metallurgy and Materials, was founded in 1925 (at that time called Eisenhütte Österreich) and is a non-profit organisation. The purpose of the association is to deal with metallurgy, materials technology and the associated processes in the scientific, technical and business management fields. The purpose of the association is achieved by: - Cooperation in the development, production and processing of steel, non-ferrous metals, special ceramic materials and refractory materials. - Representation of the interests of the industrial and commercial enterprises represented in the association in public as well as with national and international institutions. - Supporting the further education of members in working life, of the next generation of engineers and influencing the education of students in the relevant fields. - Co-operation and co-ordination of activities with national and international associations and institutions with which corresponding synergies exist with regard to the aims of the association. - Scientific conferences and meetings in which professional experience is exchanged, developments in the relevant fields are discussed and personal relationships are cultivated. - Teamwork is carried out in technical committees and project groups. - Spreading the technical and technical-scientific knowledge and essential results of conferences and technical committees by publication in the Berg- und Hüttenmännische Monatshefte (BHM). - Organisation of the student members in a student section.
