The Association for the Relief of Aged Women (ARAW) was founded in 1866. For 156 years, the ARAW’s mission has been to furnish financial assistance, provide friendship and promote the welfare and relief of low income, elderly women. As a private foundation, the ARAW financially supports the individual needs of over 275 women while being guided by the founding principles of “women helping women” and “not alms alone, but a friend”. We meet our beneficiaries’ needs through one time, intermittent or ongoing financial support while providing friendship to women through a social engagement program and social visits. ARAW also invests in and collaborates with our community partners to identify and address the unmet needs of elderly, low income women in our community.
